I purchased a serial port adapter. It came with a cd with drivers, but as soon as I plugged it in Windows XP found it and installed drivers for it. When you boot your software, If the software can't find the scanner, Just go into options and changed to a differant Com port. It's a simple adjustment, and nothing to be concerned about.

Keyspan makes some good ones. I have not seen them fail with any serial device I have used them on. Belkin adapaters work with some devices, but not with others.

Best value - save money!

There is no need to pay the inflated prices some places charge for these adapters. All of the above, including Uniden's, use the Prolific 2303 chip set. If you do a search for USB adapter+Prolific, most any match should work just fine. The best buy I found was from Comp-USA. At $14.99 I have three and use it for my Uniden radios and a few Motorola's. CompUSA often has free shipping. Each time I ordered, I had it within 3 business days.
