• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I want to bid on a Motorola STX 821 on eBay... I want to buy it to practice talking on the radio. My town uses a Motorola Trunked Smartnet system. If one of the conventional freq's that are programmed into the stx i buy on ebay match one my city uses, eg (conv. freq in radio 824.475 and one in my towns trunking system 824.475) will there cause any interference by me keying up on that conventional freq or will the system not recongize the radio ID and not cause any problems????? thanks!

Never transmit on a frequency you are not licensed for. Yes you will cause interference. It would be pretty hard to find a radio that is already programmed for the channels you need.

you could just purchase a pair of FRS radios just to be on the safe side to practice before you move up to anything like HAM radio and all, you can transmit all you want without being bickered at by anyone except for little kids but you can set Private Lines to minimize interference

Just remember channel 15-22 are GMRS frequencies and youll need a license to transmit on those though the bubble pack radios dont really hit the repeaters "areas that have GMRS activity" and 1-7 are I guess what? both FRS/GMRS? and 8-14 is just FRS

Thank you :D atleast im actually going back to double check my statements haha...

reminds me to plug up my FRS radios now thank you very much... they've been dead for a week.

--------

one line i DID forget to mention and lets hope this make sense, all FRS/GMRS hybrid radios are basically simplex? since your transmitting & receiving on the same frequency.

Well, yea! It is illegal to operate a repeater on FRS.

On another note, why do people think jamming public safety repeaters is cool seem to flock here?

Oh snap. On another note, why do people think jamming public safety repeaters is cool seem to flock here?

just like the ones in PA that stole those FD radios, I wonder if they have any common sense to think if their life was in jeopardy, would they call 911 or use their illegally obtained radios to call for help, well atleast they can get some jail time and the FD can get their radios back.
