My FD uses group call format on the paging tones (all other depts in county use Quick Call 2). When I programmed my TK-270G, I set it with a Pager setting. When the tones are set off for the dept, my Minitor pager goes off but my walkie doesn't. I have the tones and the frequency information correct. I just do not know what the problem is. I am also looking to see if there is a way to "do away" with the band split in this radio and the TK-272G. A few firefighters in the county use the 272G and we all would like to be able to utilize our SkyWarn frequency (146.790). However, this is out of band split when set for the fire channels.
Do you have the optional signaling box set to your two tone pair? Also if you want the channel traffic muted, be sure and set and/or to and.
On a two tone decode channel we set it for RX only, this way when the squelch gets reset you don't try talking on it and not hear your response. Also DO NOT scan when using the radio as a pager, you could easily miss a call.
We also have custom firmware for the TK272's that has a special alert tone that is much better than the beep beep beep. It also alerts at the first of the second tone, not the end and it also has an auto back light feature. See your local Kenwood dealer about the firmware.
As far as the ham channel, just program it in and ignore the warning. Click OK and it will leave the entered frequency.
There is no manuals for KPG56D outside of the help files. The service manuals will give you a bit of info but not much. Kenwood does now have "programming guides", and function manuals that go way above and beyond the little programming info in the service manuals. If you can't get your radio to operate the way you want it I'll be glad to look at the data file and make any changes needed. I'm a tech for a Kenwood authorized warranty shop, and we have dozens of TK272's out there working as fire pagers. Just PM me if needed.
