Hi All

Heard USFS kootenai Dispatch "812" calling C5 Fire on 171.2625 Mhz 123.0 Hz. I think C5 Fire is up somewhere around the lake koocanusa area. Had a thunderstorm come through earlier and had several lightning strikes.

Do the KNF Repeaters pass 123.0 Hz ? or does each repeater pass it's own CTCSS?? [Each Forest varies]

I'd like to get the wiki updated if we can with recent validations :)

Hi epcs92

Yes, the 123.0 Hz tone is the main PL tone for Kootenai Dispatch and there are several repeaters. Each repeater has several Rx & Tx tones; i.e 110.9, 123.0 (Dispatch), 131.8, 136.5,146.2, 156.7, 167.9, 103.5, 100.0, 107.2, 114.8, 127.3, 141.3, 151.4, 162.2. I'm trying to compile a list of which repeaters uses certain tones. I don't think I've seen any of the repeaters uses the 192.8 Hz tone yet but it is in the list of tones the federal govt uses. Dispatch also uses CSQ.

Each Repeater would only have One Tone.

Each Freq [Not Repeater] might have more than one tone [one for each Repeater] or a Common Output Tone using multiple input tones to trip each Repeater.

Dispatch also has access to DIRECT / SIMPLEX which is the 123.0 Hz

Look at the Wiki, it has the info you need. We just need to validate the data.

Hints [YMMV]
Some Repeaters might not have an output tone [CSQ] while others might pass a common Forest Tone [guessing this might be 123.0 Hz for this Forest] , while others have been known to pass the same tone as the input. [Which is why many forest radios are always programmed for CSQ on RX]

Happy hunting, but do look at the RR Wiki :D

The standardized set of 16 tones developed in California over the last 30 years has now been adopted by the National Wildland Fire Coordinating Group. The first 8 were adopted as standard by the Forest Service as a common standard several years ago, but individual tone numbers were not assigned to each frequency. The NWCG standard includes the numbering of each tone so that, for example, Tone 6 means the same all over the country. It makes sense that such things should be standardized without delay so that confusion with such simple things as tones to operate repeaters would be eliminated. People resist standardization for reasons I haven't been able to understand.

I think there is other C# fires besides C5 fire as I have heard other ones. There might be C1 Fire, C2 Fire, C3 Fire, C4 Fire and of course C5 Fire. Will have to keep an ear out for them.
