• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

    Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value.     To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

    The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

    For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Using a GTX mobile on a Smartnet System

Hi all! I am curious if the Motorola GTX mobile radio will work ok on a Smartnet system? I only need to be able to listen and receive on a few talkgroups. I dont need any fancy features. Do you think this will work? I have searched Google.com with no results. Please reply!

If the system is analog you should have no problem just need the correct information during programming.

Ok, do you think there is anything special I need to know? What I mean is, I have an MTX8000 B7 that I have on this sytem right now, as well as 2 MTX8000 B3's with B7 codeplugs in them and they all work GREAT! So, on the GTX, is it basically just plug the numbers in and go or what? Thanks a bunch!

Well for it to track it your going to need the system key. Other then that yes plug in all the CC channels and Talk groups and if your going to to talking a User ID is needed

I just thought about it. Is there a certain type of the GTX mobile I will need? I have never dealt with this model, that why I ask. I know for instance that my B7 radio does this, whereas my B3 wouldnt without the upgraded B7 codeplug. Maybe this is the same on the GTX mobile? Or is there only one kind of GTX? Thanks!

The GTX can do Type I/II/IIi out of the box, so you'll have no problems. You enter the talkgroups in decimal for the GTX, as opposed to Hex for the MTX radios. Otherwise, the other info (control channels, etc) is the same.

Oh, the GTX cannot mix standard & splinter control channels, it's either one or the other. You need an LCS/LTS2000 to do that.
