using a rs 20-176 for 2m ham band

i have a radio shack "sputnik" 20-176 antenna.
can i cut this antenna to transmit on the 2m, and 70cm ham band?
i so, i would be using it on a 5w ht radio.

If you use it on 70cm it might load up, but your radiation patter will be bad. I used a 2M 1/4 wave at my QTH for a while and it loaded on 70cm but I had very little useful range.

On 2M the 20-176 should perform like a 1/4 wave.

Yup _ During lightning storms, I use it as an "indoor" 144/440 antenna down cellar, screwed onto a Mag Mount SO239 without the radials (But on a steel Rack top) with decent SWR on both bands - a cool little antenna. :)

Doesn't it have two uhf radials?

I have used one in the attic as a 2 meter antenna. Works alot better than a 2 meter magmount on a metal ground plane in the same attic...
