Thanks Kazzaw. Actually I bought a dirt-cheap dongle a year or so ago but had trouble getting it working. Then a friend gave me an old scanner with a tap, and I ran with that. I should try the dongle again or buy a better one. It seemed like the instructions available for setting it up were poor. If you know of some good instructions please send me a link!

Depends on what dongle you bought. There are many cheap dongles that I'm not sure use the same instructions to get up and running.

I also highly recommend a dongle.

For the Cap+ system I monitor here, I will actually get a message about LCN via DSD+ when a channel is active, something along the lines of "462.0375 is the first repeater (LCN 1 and 2)". Have you seen anything of the like?

A dongle from RTL-SDR.com has been good to me. The website will provide a link to purchase one on amazon (beware of fake/imitations - there is a caution on how to identify a fake rtl-sdr dongle on their website). I have Dongle v3 from them. All instructions for setup are also on their website.
