My wife and I are planning a few trips up north to Vermont and New Hampshire this summer. I have read on how you can use a GPS with the BCD996p2 scanner. After reading the "Easy to read" manual it sure doesn't sound too easy. I see there is a dedicated GPS unit you can buy from Uniden. I saw it on Amazon but it comes with a ton of confusing cables and things. Is there a MUCH EASIER way to simply just track/receive signals as we travel? I am not sure how this all works with the Radio Reference database. We are only traveling from RI to VT / NH (on separate trips) so I would mainly be interested in receiving The Mass state police trunking system and the Vermont state PD system (and maybe other agencies on those systems). Or would it be less complicated just to program the Mass state PD CENTRAL zone since we will spend most of the time going thru there? And the VT state PD has a SOUTH zone that covers where we will be traveling.

What month is it?
Go to unidenscanners.com and Jon should be able to help you out.

Uniden used to sell dedicated GPS 'pucks' for their scanners, but chose to go with a 'one size fits all' approach, resulting in a rats nest of wires and adapter boxes. Not only is their new solution cumbersome, the GPS receiver they use is crap (same one they used to sell for the SDS200, which has a weak receive comparatively).

Jon specializes in Uniden GPS and will have a much simpler solution for you.

Well it might seem daunting, but really isn't. If you grab the wrong cables they won't fit. The correct cables are there, but it may take a few moments to locate the correct one. Don't discard any because you might upgrade your scanner some day and the GPS will work with the new one.

It isn't much different than Uniden packing three different types of power cables for you to choose depending on your set-up.

GPS scanning on trips is a very wonderful thing - it lets the scanner decide what needs to come on and when.
