If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hi all,
Just purchased one of the new Larsen Triband antennas and I was wondering if I bought a SMA female to BNC female adapter it would work. I am also wondering since I would only be RXing with it, could I use it as an external antenna since it does well on VHF even though it is a triband antenna and the XTS is a single band VHF radio. Thanks.

Yes it would work just fine. Where/how you mount it will affect it's performance but in a nutshell, yes it will work. I have one as well and it seems to be a good performing antenna.

If you're using it indoors, get a magmount for the antenna and put a cookie sheet underneath it (make sure the mag sticks to the sheet). You ought to be good to go - you will need to move it around a bit to find a sweet spot....Mike

With an XTS5000, instead of using an adaptor and messing up the antenna connector, why not buy an XTVA and the RF adaptor and use this. Then you just insert the radio when you want to use it, and push the button and pop it out when you are done. No screwing, no unnecessary wear on the antenna connector. They are going for under $100 on ebay.
