Using scanner antenna for transmit/receive

I recently went down to the local radioshack and stumbled apon a 26-1300mhz glass mount antenna. I curently run 450mhz UHF 2 way radios, I was wondering if it is possible to use this antenna to tranmit as well as receive? this is much better than the specialized UHF disguise antennas for $250

It MAY be possible but there is no guarantee it will resonate properly on the intended frequencies. In any case avoid glass mounts, being transformer coupled they can be highly problematical to set up and due to transformer losses inefficient.

You'd be better off with another sort of disguised transmitting antenna if you're a LEO undercover or drive a fancy car with a cranky wife but otherwise I don't see a need for one.

It might be ok if you don't want the radio to transmit anymore?

I agree with KB2VXA. Also scanner antennas may not be able to handle the power applied to them. They are probably designed with components that are not rated for watts.

Most modern transceivers have SWR protection, but I still would not want to test it.
