To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Using TKR-750 as data radio

Hi all,

I am trying to interface a TKR-751 VHF to a Miri AD2006 telemetry unit to use it as an external radio. I know that you can setup the TKR for remote control, just don't know how to set it up to pass data.

I have the Kenwood DB25 pin out.

My options are:

use FFSK or RS232.

My question:

What software settings do I need to change in the TKR-751 to do this?
Has anyone done this with a miri or other device and do you have a pin out I could use for reference?

Much appreciated.

I'll tell you which one you can't use, RS-232. The transmitter won't do raw data. You're only option is FSK. You'll have to keep the baud rate down to 1200 or 2400.

On the DB-25 of the TKR, use the RA and TA pins for in and out. Levels for these pins can be adjusted in the tuning section of the software. Transmit deviation should be set about 1.5KHz.

No special software settings to worry about.

OK. Thanks for that. I've got the baud rate set to 2400 at the moment in the Miri. Where do you set the Baud rate in the Kenwood software?

So I use RA, TA, PTT and GND. Is that correct?

Can you point me in the direction of the tuning section of the KPG-91D software to change levels?
Also, is there anyway to change the PTT to an active "High"

thanks

1) There is nowhere to set baud rate for the radio. FSK uses audio tones (think dial-up modem to phone line). You only need to adjust the audio levels for proper deviation on transmit, and the correct level on receive to whatever the Miri wants into it.

2) RA, TA, PTT and GND is correct.

3) RA and TA adjust is under "Program" > "Test mode".

4) PTT is active low only. If you need it the other way you'll have to roll your own external level converter.
