By now most of you have to be aware of of the massive fire on board the USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD-6) at the San Diego Naval Station. The fire started Sunday morning in a storage are in the lower part of the ship, which is currently undergoing an extended maintenance availability. For the two days, aircraft from Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron (HSC) 3, stationed at Naval Air Station North Island (right across the bay from the Naval base San Diego) have been making aerial water drops on the ship to help fight the fire.
Those firefighting operations are being coordinated on Marine VHF Channel 13 (156.650 MHz) and can be heard with a radio capable of receiving Marine VHF.
