As Ryan mentioned does anyone have any Audio files of any local scanner activity? Especially if there is any from a larger scale event; Trolley Square shooting, pursuits, large fires, or anything like that. I have a speech due in a few weeks that is supposed to be "Entertaining" i plan to do it on Scanning and wants some audio clips to show how exciting it can be at times.

I have a few that might be good.

they are at www.kc7iib.com/audio/

The SLCAirport and the 080210 R17 are probably the two best.

SLCAirport - Airport fire with Tower evacuation
080210 R17 - Inbound aircraft with issues

The 10-80 training audio is also fun.

I have implemented support for a flash based mp3 player. Apparently this is a lot harder that I hoped it would be, so I'm not too sure about how well this will work for everyone. It has to be just the right MP3 format or the file won't play (at least, that's the best free choice I found). It seems that 64k at 16bit is about the right format, and is sufficient for scanner audio.

Can a few people please test it, and let me know if it is/is not working for you? Simply follow this below link and hit the triangle play button. If it doesn't work, please take note of any errors, and let me know which browser version you are using.

Seems to work. Would be cool to get a page of sound file loaded up.

Does work, sound is intelligible, very strong modulation, occasionally over-driven but understandable.
Cool, too!

Works great and comes up quick. Almost an instant play on my end. I would be interested in getting a copy of the code to get a player like that running.

The over modulation that people are talking about are in the recording and not due to the Flash Player.

The flash player is just the free wordpress audio player. Google should be able to get you there. What is frustrating is that it isn't consistent. For some people it works, for others you get a stuttering effect, and others just hang with it saying 'buffering.' In one case I even got it to download the whole file - but it wouldn't play. So, for now, let's call this a 'beta' feature and we'll give it our best shot. Worst case, you can provide a link to the audio where people can download it and play it with whatever player they want.

I did run the audio through a limiter before converting it to an MP3 to try and reduce the over mod issue. The full rez file sounds much better, but the ultra-compressed MP3 doesn't quite do it justice. I have the joy of owning a semi-pro digitial audio workstation at the house. I am happy to process any audio if anyone has a need.

I think I have this sounding much better now. I had some messed up encoding problems. It sounds better to me. Can everyone confirm this is still working for them?
