I know most of you folks that have been in to this for a while have already figured this out.

After viewing some of the Unitracker data that has been posted I have seen some of the hits on unidentified TGID’s. Another thing I have noticed is the spacing of the TIGD’s are multiples of 32. Since I spend most of the day in Utah County, for work, I decided to throw all the know Utah County TGID’s on a spreadsheet and “fill in the blanks”.

With the exception of a large 24 TGID gap in the middle they are pretty much in sequence. There are some 3 TGID spaces in between the cities but mostly right down the line. I hope to use this to narrow down who some of those unidentified channels are. If someone else would like a copy of that spreadsheet let me know.

Likewise if there are suggestions I’m all ears.

Correct. UCAN talkgroups are 20 Hex apart. Some systems have ODD hex spacing and some have EVEN hex spacing. UCAN uses EVEN hex TGs so the first talkgroup is 32 decimal (20h) and the next is 64 decimal (40h). The lowest know talkgroup on UCAN is 224 (E0h). From 224 to 28416 there are not many gaps in assigned TGs. And from 39872 to 49152 there are not many gaps (meaning most are being used - or at least have been assigned). I'm not sure where it starts exactly, but everything above 57600 seems to be digital. I'm not sure if that is for technical reasons, or they just decided to put them all up there.

Talkgroups that are not multiples of 32 that people run into are because of Status bits being displayed on the scanner or Trunker. You can tell by converting the TG to hex. The last digit of the actual TG should always be 0.

The best way to figure out the little-used Talkgroups using trunker (and unitrunker, I assume) is to label the radio IDs from the talkgroups to know what radio belongs to which agencies. Then when they show up on a new TG, it will give you some info as to who is using it. Coming up with a TG name is usually the hard part.

N7OLQ, am I to understand that with UniTracker you can capture the ID of the radio itself when it is used for traffic on the system? In looking at the screenshot of the UniTrunker provided by Dave, I do not see where it IDs the radio.

Would you explain this in a little better detail for me? Also, is Trunker similar to UniTracker?
