Now that most of Utah is on the 800Mhz system
Does anyone know if the UTA is still
transmitting on the 453Mhz Band?

I don't remember UTA using the 453Mhz Band. Nothing is currently listed there. Mostly Utah went from 155 MHz convention to 800 MHz trunked, and some 155 MHz conventional repeaters are still very active.

The front runner is on the 900 MHZ band.
But, As I understand it, they are using some technology from the UK...
And we can not pick that up on the China / Japan made radios.

Correct. It's a custom trunking system.

Nothing to do with where the scanners are made. It's a proprietary trunking system that no scanners are able to track.

Unitrunker does some mpt1327 decoding as well but trunkview might be better.. but both work. Trunkview u get raw decodes with visual data from the control channel

A few years ago they were decommissioning their 900 MHz MPT-1327 network, and putting up their own 800 MHz iDEN network. Have they now decommissioned that iDEN network, to go with something else?

My 2 cents.....I know the UTA Police use the UCAN 800 (between SLC and Ogden there is more traffic from them most of the time than there is local traffic). Communications between the front runner, trains, buses, paratransit, etc. are all done through a proprietary network.

This network carries all sorts of data from gps location for drivers being kept on route schedules to fares paid by patrons. It is very similar to the data terminals that run the laptops in police and fire vehicles. I do not know if it's run by cell towers or by satellite. I do know we have no way to monitor communications with laptops in police and fire vehicles nor is there a way to capture the data stream UTA has going to their equipment.

I also know metrics coming from all the onboard computers are sent directly to the maintenance center in SLC for all the sensors on the equipment as well. The drivers can and are held accountable for even the comfort temps inside their equipment as part of their performance appraisals.

UTA PD on the UCA system is quite entertaining. They have some of the craziest stuff they deal with.
