• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I'm having a problem with a UV-380 connecting to a notebook . I don't have a problem with my laptop (Dell win 10) but the same software/cable/radio will not connect to the notebook (lenovo win 10).. When I look in device manager it shows up as "digital radio in usb mode" on the notepad. My laptop does not show that and works fine. I've downloaded a newer version of the software when the one I had did not work, no joy there, also downloaded USB driver for digital radio for the notepad... Nothing, just keep getting the error message " check the usb cable .... " Several weeks ago a friend asked about the radio and I told him I had no problems, he bought one and couldn't program it, so he brought the notepad to me and I'm running into this.. Anybody ever experience this ..The notepad beeps when the cable is plugged in and radio is turned on indicating the notepad recognizes the radio in connected..

From reddit
"Look at device manager (start | device manager)

Under 'Other Devices' you will have something like 'Digital Radio in USB Mode' with a yellow triangle ! in it. That's good, that means Windows has detected the device and recognises it as something, but it's not got the right drivers.

Search google for "STM Device in DFU mode drivers". I found them at STM Device in DFU Mode (network) drivers for Windows

Download the file and extract it somewhere (like c:\temp)

Right click on "Digital Radio in USB Mode" in device manager and click on "Update Driver"

Click on "Browse my computer....." and point it to C:\Temp (or wherever you extracted the drivers)

Windows will report that it is installing drivers and then "Windows has successfully updated your drivers." Now the device will be called "STM Device in DFU Mode" and will hide itself away under "Universal Serial Bus controllers" in the Device Manager tree."
