Hello RadioReference Community,I have an update regarding the UVB-76 buzzer. It seems that the buzzer has stopped working. I was monitoring the signal at 4,625 kHz and noticed that it has ceased to operate. Initially, I thought there might be a voice message, but that wasn’t the case.Details:Observed Issue: Buzzer stopped working.Frequency: 4,625 kHz.Date & Time: August 2nd, 2024, at 17:35 UTC (19:35 Central European Summer Time)Signal Strength: In great conditionI’m using the Netherlands WebSDR for monitoring. If anyone has additional information or has experienced similar issues, please share your observations. Let’s keep each other updated on this development.Thank you for your attention.Best regards,

Just checked (1410 UTC, 03 August, 2024), and Buzzer is buzzing along just fine. Of course, at this time of day I am not hearing it on the Netherlands WebSDR (due to normal propagation) but do hear it on other SDRs closer to the source.

The fact of the matter is, the Buzzer has quit buzzing many, many, many times. Sometimes for a few seconds, sometimes minutes, other times hours, days, or even weeks. The last time I noticed it stopped working was 3 or 4 days ago, on 31 July, for several hours. But then again, I don't really pay attention to the Buzzer much, so it could have failed / stopped several times since then.

The Buzzer stopping is not really unusual. Sometimes the Buzzer stopping means a voice message is on the way, other times it just means something broke, or more likely someone pulled the wrong switch. In recent months the Buzzer replacing its own Buzz with some other signal, such as a Russian military CIS-12 (AT3104D) modem, is also not unusual. And, of course, for the last several years (going back to ~2011) the Buzzer being jammed by pirates, hoaxers, or trolls, is not unusual.

The Buzzer stopping is something to note, so that its habits are better understood. But, based on past history, it is going to stop, often, and that stopping probably has no or little meaning in and of itself. What might be of more interest is what sometimes happens (messages, other signals, etc) during the period the Buzzer is stopped. But most of the time, when Buzzer stops, nothing else happens.

T!
