Anyone know other frequencies that are used other than the Police Department VHF Frequency and the 800MHZ LTR system. I was helping move someone in and the LTR system was still being used, but I was at a UWM apartment building and saw a few people carrying Kenwoods radios on there sides and the Display said Simplex which usually means not using the repeater. I tried scanning and couldn't find the frequency.

Could have been a private business so finding the frequency by searching would have been hit or miss. They may have been using MURS/color dots so it always a good idea to have those programmed.

I'm a retired officer from that agency. UWM-PD is still on 155.190. However the Department recently purchased over $40,000 in 800mhz radios and I hear the Chief wants get the Department on MCTRS as soon as funding allows. Reception in buildings is a big issue as you might well imagine so I believe they will have to put another repeater on Sandburg and extra antennas in several of the buildings and parking structures all of which the University will have to pay for. The County isn't providing any funding and so far all their grant requests have been turned down. So I don't believe they will switch over any time soon. All other campus departments... dorms, physical plant, parking, safety shuttle, etc. are on the LTR syatem. If I hear anything else I'll let ya know.

Campus coverage shouldn't be too bad as they are within spitting distance of the MCTRS site at Lincoln park, which is a high profile site. I can understand the need to at BDA's and the like in some of the larger buildings, etc.

If I were them, and the radios they bought are P25-compliant, I'd be looking at jumping onto the county's P25 side of the TRS straight away, as it's at Lincoln park.

The UWMPD has had 800 mhz radios for a few years and your right, they did work OK out in the open. They were only used for SMART call ups though because of the building penetration issue.

As far as I know all the Kenwood radios used in dorms/apartments should be 800mhz LTR.

I'll check to see if the radios they just bought are P25 compatible the next time I talk to the guy who is in charge of the change over. I would doubt it though. They usually arn't very forward thinking.

Sounds like UWM Police just cut over to Milwaukee County TRS
Everyone is doing radio checks, and dispatch is on the air too.

Operations are still on 155.190. The PD is still testing to try and determine where all the dead spots are in the buildings. There are lots of them. I'm told the county is interested in putting another repeater site somewhere on the east side to help with coverage at the lakefront so they are having discussions with the University on putting it on Sandburg North Tower's radio tower. The county would pick up all or most of the cost so that would be good news for the University. Lots to iron out yet though. They would also need at least three extra antennas in buildings etc in order to make it safe for the department to use. UWM would have to pick up the cost for that. They have 6 talkgroups assigned to them. 38832 would be UWMPD 1. They would have another TG used by the security guards and the rest would be special assignment, car to car, etc. I don't know what the other talkgroup IDs are though. There is no target date or time line for the switch over. I'm also told the departments recently purchased radios are P25 compatable. Will keep you posted.

I wonder if anyone did some testing on the P25 site? That might work for them, testing at Mitchell International worked pretty good for just that one site way up by the North Shore

It would be smart if they went to a TRS and went Digital at once although going digital isn't a must, although it would be a plus, as long as they dont try to do it like MPD did it.
