Am having trouble loading to the V folders. I have read the manual many times and still can't get it in...Can any one help me? I never used the v scanner before so don't know quite how it works.. Is there any way to get the scan list to stop blinking when a TG is talking? Still tying to learn all about this new 106 I have. Any inputs on it would be helpful..Thanks in advance

It will make sense.....soon

Don't worry, it will make sense soon. Think of it as a my documents folder and the V-folders are folders within my documents. Press FUNC then PROG. That brings you to the main V-folder menu. Press F1 for load. Use the big button to scroll up and down to select which folder you want to load. The pre-loaded ones are listed and just scroll through to find your state. You can over-write or edit any one of them to make a new, or edited folder. Each V-folder contains 20 sub-folders(not called folders; these are really the banks like regular scanners use). Then just press 1-9 and FUNC 1-9 to toggle on and off which ones you want. I HIGHLY recommend one of the softwares available for this scanner. I use the WIN500 as I have used the Starr software for years.

I am not sure about the blinking scan list. Hope this helps.

Thanks Mike, I do have Win500. A friend on mine sent me a Win500 file of one of our counties near by and I was just trying to get that file in the v-scanner file. When I do get it in there and I go to that county does it load into the scanner what I have in there now or does it just come out of the V-scanner? Hope that made sense...Thanks again

When you get to the area you are visiting you would have to load it. For example I live in Ontario Canada, but I'm currently on business in Florida. Before I left I loaded up a bunch of Florida stuff and programmed it into V-Scanner 2. When I got down here, I saved my current 'normal' configuration to V-Scanner 1, then loaded V-Scanner 2. The radio reboots and walla.... it's completely reprogrammed with all the Florida information that I entered. When I leave and get back home I will simply reload V-Scanner 1 to restore my radio to it's usual setup.

There are two areas of memory used in the Pro-106/197.

The first are is Working Memory. This is the area of memory the scanner actively uses to monitor radio activity. Working memory can contain up to 1852 objects (depending on the types of objects stored, this number may be less). This is what you are listening to when the scanner is operating.

The second area is V-Scanner memory. This is just a simple fileing cabinet to store copies of working memory in. V-Scanners are not actively scanned by the radio until they are loaded into working memory.

If this win500 file you're trying to use is for your local area, use the upload to scanner option (as opposed to the v-scanner option) to load that information into working memory. You might want to save whatever you have loaded into the radio before doing that though.

I found the frequency information in a V-folder for my area to be basically incorrect. It had the "secondary" site frequencies in it. That's a good thing about the Win500 software. You can load a v-folder and check the information in it, and correct it if needed.

I think the Mikes explained the V Folders as well as they can be explained. :) As for the alternating display..

PGM > GLOB, scroll down to:
LCD Blink Off: 150
LCD Blink ON: 50

Change to:
LCD Blink Off: 150
LCD Blink ON: 1

That will make the scanner only display the TG name, not alternate with the TSYS name.
