Does anyone know how to select volume reduction by talkgroup? One of our local FD's talkgroups is for ALERT, automated voice (text to speech) to page out stations. It is EXTREMELY LOUD. If I turn the volume down so it is comfortable, all other talkgroups are so low as to be illegible. Perhaps this would be a good addition to the next s/w upgrade? Thanks for reading.
If your pager is supplied by your agency, I would report this issue to the necessary powers to be. This would require involvement by the radio shop to rectify.
It's possible that they have the audio source cranked up so their pagers will decode properly. We went through this on our old analog trunked system; since 800 MHz deviation was so much lower than the old conventional systems, the tone levels had to be cranked up considerably so that the Plectron receivers would decode the tones (fortunately the tone levels could be set independently). Sounds like maybe this agency overcompensated and cranked the whole thing.
We've also got a similar issue (in reverse) in this area. The local big-city fire department uses Locution, and the audio level on the alerting talkgroup is quite a bit lower than all others; when you turn up your radio so you can hear the nice automated lady talk, the other talkgroups blow out your eardrums.
If the tone levels can't be adjusted independently at the console, there may be nothing that can be done at the console level, in which case a per-talkgroup (or frequency) audio cut/boost setting in the Unication would be just the ticket. I've got several G5s around here and such a setting would be quite handy.
Hmmmmm. Maybe I should send an email to the friendly folks at Unication about this....
