The 796D cannot properly process STARS multi-data stream packet trs signals. Forget programing the primary control channel(s). I have a 796D I use mobile and I programed STARS in one bank conventionally with ONLY the voice repeaters for the STARS sites I can receive mobile from my location which are the Richmond and Petersburg sites. Sometimes that configuration works ok and at other times it does not due to one or more trs voice repeaters "hanging" and not dropping although there are no voice comms on that repeater. Then I have to lock it out and later unlock it. It's better than nothing. There will not be any Uniden upgrades to the 796D. That's about as good as it gets for STARS reception with a 796D.

Not sure if the 296/796 will even work with CC only in VH/UHF systems.

The hang up using voice repeaters is likely multipacket sent on one of the alt CC's. Data instead of voice and it happens with nearly every transmission on the primary talkgroups (1/3 or 49/51). This same issue has tormented the Pro-96 and 2096 and could be earlier firmware on 369/996.

I don't know what I was thinking about when I was talking about the cc and everything, guess I have done so much with the 800mhz that it just came out that way. So what scanner would I need to do stars withand everything. Anybody feedback would be helpful to this situation and thank you

Whatever the cause the result is the same.

Using Pro96com and a RS Pro 106 on STARS, you can pick up the radio ID numbers along with everything else. With my RS Pro 96 and Pro96com, the radio ID numbers would not always display.
