Will be visiting friends & family soon in Southwest Michigan, and then venturing around the surrounding areas for scanning oppurtunities. I will use this thread for some questions, etc.

If any one has any requests of things that need to be scanned, monitored, please let me know.

Question 1: Allegan County Public Safety
It says on the description:
With this new 800 megahertz technology the use of current VHF scanners will not be able to monitor the day-to-day communications between Allegan Central and the law enforcement agencies of Allegan County. The new radio system operates using digital encryption, meaning that scanner listeners will no longer be able to track daily activities for law enforcement or EMS

But on the talkgroups, they are listed as D which only means digital, not encrypted (would be "E" then)

2029 15-135 D Sheriff Disp Sheriff: Dispatch Law Dispatch
2045 15-155 D Sheriff C2C Sheriff: Car-to-Car Law Tac
2046 15-156 D Rural Law 1 Rural Law: Dispatch 1 Law Dispatch
2047 15-157 D Rural Law 2 Rural Law: Dispatch 2 Law Dispatch

So, are they digital or digital encrytption?

Allegan County uses an EDACS system, & there is also some MPSCS use. To my knowledge, it is standard digital, no encryption.

I monitor these systems all the time and don't believe we are missing anything, but thanks. :) You'll find the Radioreference database is up to date with exception to the ProVoice system, that isn't really monitor-able anyway.

The Allegan ProVoice system only has fire tone out patches that are analog, so to monitor the system use the MPSCS towers for the sheriff, DNR, DOT, etc.

You'll also find that Allegan Co. also includes the southern part of Holland city. This is where you will find most of the action. So also take a look at Ottawa county also. If that's not got enough action and you bring an antenna you can put in the attic or on a tower, or take a drive up I-196 you may also get Kent county and Grand Rapids excitement to monitor. :D

If you use the import for Win500/PSREdit for the GRE/RadioShack digitals or FreeSCAN/ARCXT for the Uniden XT models you'll have the latest data you need.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8350i/4.6.1.313 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/103)

I used to live in Kent County, and my scanners were never quiet. I am in Allegan now. There is still a lot of activity. Just today West Michigan Aircare had 2 flights into Allegan County for accidents.
. Have a good and safe trip

Allegan County Public Safety EDACS

OK, thanks for all the responses. I will now begin to ask some questions and give info on what I received during the trip.

Allegan County Public Safety....
my PSR-500 showed that 857.9375 was LCN01 on site 01.
my PSR-500 showed that 858.2625 was LCN01 on site 02.

Are there actually different sites with differen LCN's that arent simulcast on the "same" frequency?

Also, managed to get a couple AFS numbers:
15-131 (very close to the current numbers)
04-022 (completely different)

Hi Terry. The Allegan ProVoice system is simulcast on six towers, the main "cell site" tower in Allegan is LCN 01. The tower at Holland is LCN 02 is actually a separate call sign. I monitor it at times with UniTrunker or Etrunk. The other towers do not seem to be monitor-able from my QTH even with a beam. Repeater output is 100 Watts. And the frequencies do alternate to the secondary for full duty cycle relief.

Not much you can monitor this system due to the ProVoice, unless your Linux (Ubuntu) savvy. Then again, if it's important, you'll also hear the same traffic on the MPSCS P25 Allegan talkgroups.

FCC Callsign WQBT632 Details Main simulcast system at Allegan.

FCC Callsign WPPF573 Details Secondary system with simulcast.
