WEST VAIL SHOOTING INVESTIGATION UNDERWAY

At 7:28 this evening, the first reports of a shooting at the Sandbar Sports Grill, located at 2161 North Frontage Road West in West Vail, were received. At this time, a male suspect is in custody. Vail Police Chief Dwight Henninger has confirmed one fatality and two others injured. The injured were transported to Vail Valley Medical Center, one in serious condition.

From Vail Daily:

VAIL, Colorado - One person is dead and two people have been injured in a shooting Saturday night at the Sandbar in West Vail, Vail Police Chief Dwight Henniger said. One person is in custody. The suspect is described as a Vail Valley man, but his name has not been released. Neither the identity of the person killed nor the names of the injured have been released. Police received the emergency call around 7:30 p.m., Saturday. Witnesses said a man was being escorted out of the bar when he fired several shots. He then re-entered the bar and fired several more, witnesses said. Witnesses reported hearing about 10 shots total. Henniger said police do not know what the motive in the shooting is. Nancy Lewis, of Vail, who was sitting with her husband, Richard, in the bar, said she saw a man being escorted out of the bar and speaking incoherently. "He stepped back back and pulled the gun out," she said. "The first shot hit (someone) in the arm. We ran out the back but other people were stuck inside."Richard Lewis said he thinks the gun was an automatic pistol. Witnesses had gathered at McDonald's and in front of Safeway Saturday night. Any witnesses to the shooting are asked to call Vail police at 479-2201.

Additional from CBS4: We talked with a person inside the McDonalds next door who said she heard about 10 shots. Police ordered her to lock the doors of the restaurant and only around 9PM was told that she could let people out of the store. She describes "SWAT teams" still running around the area...

Summit Medical Center to VVMC

Just talked with CSP. One of their troopers did a Code 3 run from Summit Medical Center in Frisco to Vail Valley Medical Center. Confirmed he transported blood needed for shooting victims from the Sandbar.

Bonfils was not involved.

Now 4 victims

uhmmm..... what's a blood run??? :)

It's a vampire marathon! Ba DUM dum!

But seriously, Vail Valley is little more than a medical clinic. Not sure we could even classify it as "urgent care" Not surprising they wouldn't have a lot of blood on hand for multiple shooting victims, so they had some brought over from Frisco.

By the way, there are now three surviving shooting victims reported from VPD and one deceased.

Actually VVMC is a Level III trauma center (same as Summit Medical Center in Frisco) much much more than an urgent care facility. A very respectable hospital.

Additional info from VPD:

At this time, the suspect, 63-year old Richard Moreau, of Vail, is in custody. The reason for the shooting is under investigation.

Vail Police Chief Dwight Henninger has confirmed one fatality and three others injured. The deceased is a male from Carbondale. The injured are three males from Vail, ages 25, 29 and 63. All were transported to Vail Valley Medical Center. Two are in surgery and one has been treated and released.

The Colorado Bureau of Investigation is assisting Vail Police Department with the investigation.

Although they are state designated level IIIs, they are not verified by the American College of Surgeons as being so equipped. It is another layer of certification that few hospitals outside of the front range have applied for.
ACS recognizes Denver Health, St Anthony's and Swedish as the only Level Is in the state. There are none in Wyoming, North and South Dakota and one in New Mexico.

So Bonfils has marked units that can run code 3? I've never seen one of those, nor did I know they could do that. Anyone have pics? Very interesting...
