Valco and their "new" bc-246t

let me just make this clear from the start, im sure that this is a vendor issue, and not Valco trying to pull something, but it still is something that happened. I am not trying to get anything free, i just want what i paid for.

i ordered a 246 from them, it came and not only did it not have the default programming, but the lens was scratched. The lack of programming i could deal with, as i plan to wipe that out and use ARC246 instead, the scratched lens is unacceptable.

I contacted them and was advised that they were out till the end of NEXT month and to just hang on to it till they got more and.. this is the best part "just be careful with it". Being concerned that after me having it for over a month, the last thing i wanted to hear was "well, how do we know you didnt drop it since then"


just wanted to post a heads up.

I'm not sure what you are trying to say. "Vendor issue" means what? And who is Valco? Are you talking about "BuyReliant" in Eunice, LA? Vendor to me means the person (or entity) selling an item. So in this case Valco is the vendor. I did a quick check and was surprised to find that my favorite Uniden dealer, Communications Electronics, Inc. is also out of stock for this radio. These things must be selling like hot-cakes. This is the first time I remember seeing UEI being out of stock on a non-discontinued item.

In any case, it is pretty evident that Valco sent you a returned item and were none too careful about how they did it.

Yep...... If it is Buyreliant, I almost purchased from those guys. I surely will take my business elsewhere now, like scannermaster or another reputable company.....

So they are letting you use a radio for a month at no cost and that's bad service? Or are you saying the lens protection wasn't even on and they sold you a used item?

no, the radio did not have the lens protection, nor did it have the default systems programmed into it..

i could care less about the systems, its the lens that bothers me. the rest of the stuff was sealed (cables, etc). In fact, if it was just something minor, i could probably talk myself into letting it go, but the scratch is very noticable.

they wanted me to hang on and use the scanner "just dont drop it" till they got more in "at the end of next month". I am terribly afraid that if i take them up on it, i will hear "well how do we know you didnt do that in the month or so you have had it, we wont cover that". then im stuck buying a new case or something.

FYI, they wanted to just give me store credit, but i talked them into refunding my credit card when i ship it back.. so looks like im on the hunt for another 246.

So I guess your in the market again. Might I suggest UEI (at the link above), I have never heard anyone complain about them yet and considering the shipping is included in the price, I would say they are cheaper then the BuyReliant page I looked at.

You might want to check the return policy, some people only have a 30 day return or 60 or whatever, if theirs is only a 30 day and they want you to "hold on to it" till then, good luck returning it (if they are trying to scam you)sounds like they tried pulling a fast one on you with a used scanner anyway.
My 2 cents: return it now, get your money, go elswhere.
I started a thread "best places to buy a scanner" or something like that, check it out, you should be able to find a better dealer, maybe a better deal also. Good luck
