I recently picked up a whistler EZ 800 scanner ..The base is encrypted but I'm picking up a lot of there transmissions, not always but kinda hit and miss, I've never been able to pick them up before on any of my digital scanners, not sure why I'm picking them up now.. any feedback is appreciated.. Rick..

Many scanners automatically block/don't play audio from encrypted scanners. The EZ Scan software for the PSR800 allows you to select how encrypted traffic is handled, play raw audio, play tone (like the old busy signal) or silence.

Yes it has the busy signal sound, but I'm getting full transmissions with no busy signal, its just kind of strange that I'm getting there traffic ..should be blocked ..I've had similar scanners and never received there full conversation ..

Just a guess maybe they aren't using encryption for that current period of time before switching back to encryption.

I know my local navy base (NAS Lemoore) is fully in the clear even though they are listed as encryption capable. Encryption is selectable but when it’s turned on, the dispatcher tells them to turn it off.

Vandenberg is listed as unencrypted in the database.

This was last discussed a couple of years ago, and they were fully encrypted in all talk groups (including Base Fire Dept). Last time I was there (pre-pandemic), I confirmed that the encryption continued. So something has changed for the better?

Perhaps .. like I mentioned it's hit and miss, there was a roll over yesterday just past fire fighter rd. Heard the whole conversation through out there investigation of accident, on Sunday heard fire dispatched to a gas leak in one of the buildings, but 70% of the time I'll get the busy signal.. so who knows.. thanks for the responses KK6ASZ
