Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Well, I've run out of space in my dash, and the interior is quite cramped to begin with.

I have a mustang convertible. I already have two motorola astros in there. (VHF/800) These are both controlled by a single w9 head. (dual radio option) I also have a DEK and a wildcard to control other options.. which, leaves me with no room. I've already hacked a fair chunk out of the dash to fit whats in there now.

So, I'm looking for a low band radio, with HHC or HHCH option, or a really compact remote head. I'm basically out of space, but still want a low band radio (~40-50 mhz area)

Suggestions? Radio make/model, where to mount, etc.

I know years ago motorola used to make spectra's with a hhch and i would have suggested that but they are getting real old now and purchasing a used one could be taking a big chance. Good question. Hope some others come up with an answer.

Have you thought about a Midland XTR? They are circa mid 90's radios but strong. Look around ebay & places, or just do a search for that. They come in dash mount or remote mount. Remote head on those is really small, and the ext speaker is the same size as the Moto speakers.

Maratracs have remote heads too...and will do 42-50...

Tim Batt

If he already has a W9 Spectra head (Full Feature head), with a DEK & Wildcard controller and is out of room, I think a Maratrac Head is going to be to big. Well I'm thinking about the newer heads. I guess he could go with the older "dial" type head, but those things are a pain to use & service.

I was referring to the HHCH...looks the same as the spectra, I know there have been some floating on ebay...As far as lowband radios go, he is pretty limited, to my knowledge, there never was a lowband spectra produced, You are looking at Maratrac, Maxtrac, CDM 750 or 1250, then on to the Midlands, and Kenwoods, and Vertex's

The smallest head he can find is either the Maratrac Rotary, or the Maratrac HHCH, or to go with the Midlands. All very good radios, Just depends on the size, the brand loyalty, and what he is looking for....

Found orion (M/A-COM) make a HHC for their radios.. I can get radio rather cheap, its just a matter of finding the HHC... which, I have never seen online before. (Used them when I was doing some work before)

Anyone know where I could locate one of those bad boys, for less than retail?

Also not really caring about brand loyalty at this point..

Have you thought about looking for a Syntor X9000 lowband with HHCH? The transceiver is a little large, but they cover the entire 30-50MHz low band range and can be hacked to do 6 meters as well.

What are you looking for feature wise? You could do a kenwood and put the control head on the dash just above your gauge cluster.

x9000 hhchs are SUPER RARE...I have only seen one of them, and one of the Syntor X setups. I still think you will be better off with a Maratrac, they are alot closer to being a recent production item for motorola...

I have a couple people who are big into GE stuff....I will ask if they know of the HHCH for the Orions...

There are alot of Midland Syntech II's out there, they are nice radios, small head, and 320ch capacity, and they can even have a built in extender setup on VHF!

They are a smaller footprint for mounting than anything Motorola....

There are yahoo groups for both the orions and the midlands...

The Orion HHCH works great. Check with Elroy Jetson on the batboard web site. I got one from him.
Low band Orions are cheap right now!
