Venango County commissioners on Tuesday approved a $6 million contract with Mobilcom/EF Johnson to replace the county’s 911 and EMS radio system.

Unfortunately, your link is a pay wall. This really surprises me. Crawford County has no intention to switch due to the cost to both the county and the departments. It's not like Venango is rolling in money.

Unfortunately the local paper is like that, but they are coming up with the funds. Its to future proof because if you look at grants for fire etc they are requiring that the radios be digital capable which means they probably be pushing another narrow-band initiative which will need to be digital to meet the requirements.

I'm rather surprised that they're able to secure funding to cover tower and departmental changeover. The person who told me that Crawford County could never afford it is the county commissioner who also happens to be the owner of Meadville Ambulance.

Its only 911 changeover, all depts will have to purchase their own subscriber units.
