I have noticed that hotel security can no longer be heard on the Venetian trunking system. Anyone know if they made some changes? Maybe encryption, or do they have a new system? I can still hear all the other departments just fine on the current system.

Thanks,
Bill

Some hotel and casinos have moved their security operations from the normal open mode (monitorable) to encryption. I believe that Caesars has done this also.

If they are encrypting the transmission, and still using the same trunking system, and the trunking system is analog, then wouldn't the talkgroup still come up with the audio unintelligible?

Yes, but if the talkgroup ID changed and it went to digital you might not realize it. Another possibility is that they went to the Nextel walkie talkie feature. Some entities have done this thus leaving their normal mode of communication, the trunking system. A lot of federal law enforcement activity is now on Nextel, especially the US Marshal's Service.

Caesars Surveillance hasnt really used a radio in a long time, their security which was mentioned is still the same. Ill have to see if I can tap into The Venetian - I know one of the directors over there and might ask.

Anything new on this? I'll be at the Venetian/Sands Expo for a conference in a couple of weeks.

Thanks!

I'm at a convention this week at the Venetian. I have not determined the security talkgroup yet, but am working on it. I suspect TG 5112 but will keep monitoring.

Things can change quickly, more later, but security primary may be TG 3071, security secondary TG 3070. Will keep monitoring and confirm for certain before posting again.

Bill, what were the TG's you used to hear them on? I am hearing them on a primary TG of 3071 all this week as I have been staying nearby at the Wynn and attending a trade show at the Venetian. I talked to one security officer who thought he was on a digital radio, but could not tell me if they were encrypted since it's a secret. I got a kick out of that. They have Kenwood radios, unknown model number. While I was talking to another officer, he answered his radio, and my scanner captured the frq. which was one of the normal 459 MHz input frqs for their LTR TRS's 454 MHz channels.

I'm hoping there are not two primary security channels. I have not heard any digital or encrypted TG's at all.

I have about 28 other TG's logged which I will send in a couple of days

I was at the Venetian from Sept 14th through the 19th, and used BCTool to log TGs for both the Venetian LTR and the Sands Expo LTR. Imagine my surprise last night when I finally got around to going through the logs to submit data, and found that you'd beat me to the punch. I think I only logged one TG that you didn't have, which was for the network techs at Sands Expo.

Nice job!

Did you listen to any traffic on the TG's you captured? What I'm interested in is if you heard Venetian surveillance ? They used to identify as "sky". I haven't heard them in awhile.

VMWorld was a blast to be at, I tagged along with a relative and the entire trip and visit was on her company!

On Close Call my scanner captured these frqs while I was in the Venetian/Sands Convention/Trade Show rooms:

898.7750
898.8000
898.8125

I could not locate a license for the 937 MHz (+39 MHz) pairs these inputs would be used by. Any ideas?

Didn't the ventian have two ltr based systems? Is it possible that they maybe on the other one? In any case I'm sure the stuff that is high security is done over nextel or a version simlar of nature as tobro or the old fashion call me at ext 2000 type thing.

Also, security as far as most people look at it don't realize this that its broken into two divisons.

Their is two version alone: floor security / hotel security, hotel security may consist of floor security and then their is corporate security that has more of an LP role (loss prevention apporach) surevilance control agents type sector. They may operate on entirily different platforms as far as radio goes, but share a common channel for take downs or interagency co-ordination concept.

More typical measure maybe appiled for corporate security aspect such as cell, blackberry especially or stuff that the ordinary public wold have. Do not be surpised if you see that one odd ball out like ie 800 mhz trunked system with a vhf frequency on another license to the casino. That vhf frequency that does not seem to fit might be a invetsigate type channel for onsite activities. Bascally hidding in the obivious is the concept, you may even hear activity on lvmpd tac releated channels or their trunked systems depending on the alliance or interagency co-operating capabilities.

Its not like its some small deal person with no money to spend on technology, massive bo ko bucks here for technology and if their is a cheap and effecient way you better beileve they have look into. Think simple first, if it works and no one can hear it or limited people can here your all set. Simplex is good for this as well.

Theory 101
I have a pair of frequencies that operate on 152.0000 tx and 157.0000 rx for a repeater. I now have just created 2 more simplex channels that a license will support. Not to mention all the digital modes that exist and pl/dpl. Then I have a few more options to play with, murs channels. While low powered and open to everyone then comes the usage of codes or phrases are what you really are listening for. That could very by property. The other traffic your hearing is open mode type things, things they want or now you can hear with in reason. Granted an emergency is not going to be secured unless operating naturally in that mode already.

Hotel Security

It sounds like the Venetian maybe using the same LTR system that the Luxor is using. You can pick up the freq and talkgroup but no modulation (it is digital). The Town Square Shopping center uses a Motorola Digital system that cannot be picked up on any scanner these days. Face it in a couple of years the hotels will be using systems that cannot be heard on everyday radios receivers, due to homeand Security measures. The luxor casino and hotel use new kenwood radios too. I wonder what the new City Center on the strip will be using, due to it's size and location. Only time will tell.

I have not heard any cross talk on frqs or TG's. Interesting if they were doing it.

To think about

"The Town Square Shopping center uses a Motorola Digital system that cannot be picked up on any scanner these days." Motorola Trbo as described above, it not so much security as it is better to provide more features such as texting based radios and more channel space per new fcc regualtions, one conventional repeater can be turn into two, you have to understand that this provides for more avaiability for more user talkgroups per say. Digital is the shift that the fcc is making, radio manfactures are following suit. Remind yourself town square is a seperate entity in the hotel itself. Also, covered above as unique divisions or seperated business ran in one location.

LTR Type, but not the same channel layout. Their are variations of LTR protocols.

Most support LTR Basic, some do not support a home based channel that your looking for, realistically ltr in itself is a format of digital. Do a google serach a read about LTR and it might help explain what your hearing and not hearing. I understand what your saying, as we have had discusions here about various LTR systems in IL. Trust me we have many to follow, and not are all created equal. Systems componets are similar, however layouts are different. Most utilize trident repeaters that support LTR directily.

LTR Passport can not be traced by a scanner, their for you would see no talkgroups at all.
