I live about a mile away from Newport News/Williamsburg Airport and routinely see "Air Force 1" type planes flying constantly for hours doing touch and go's. I was finally able to confirm today that they were operating under call sign "Venus 01" (at least for this evolution). Is this the common call sign used when not operating as "Air Force 1"?

"VENUS" callsign aircraft are any special air mission aircraft with no VIP on board

I remember seeing it too, 2 weeks ago. I was wondering why PD or Secret service didn't have roadblocks set up

They've been doing this for years. I remember being in the police academy back in 2009 and doing our EVOC training at PHF, and seeing them doing touch and go's. I was never able to pick them up until now. It's pretty cool watching them, but it's they get so low and close to my apartment it get annoying after a while.

AF 82-8000 ("28000" or AF1 when POTUS is on board) was down doing touch and go practice landings at Langley AFB a week ago. I saw them taking off in front of me over I64. It may have been them or another doing similar.

KRIC is another popular T&G spot for Venus. We used to see it often when I was stationed in a firehouse near there.
