All,

I did review the RR but I am trying to verify what frequencies are primarily used by both UVA Medical Center (Charlottesville) and VCU Medical Center (Richmond) for the ambulances to communicate with their respective facility.

For UVA it appears that most use the Charlottesville/Albemarle trunking system under talk group 35504 and 35536. It does not appear that they use statewide EMS, 155.2050 or HEAR, 155.3400.

For VCU, do they use the statewide EMS or HEAR frequencies or are they on the Richmond Trunk system and if so which ones are primarily used?

I appreciate any help from those that monitor these systems.

Thanks in advance,
David

As far as I know VCU uses HEAR.

I know that VCU has the capability to communicate on Statewide EMS and HEARS frequencies, but they are not used on a regular basis for hospital-to-ambulance comms. From what I understand from speaking with EMTs in the area, cell phones are the primary means of communication.

UVA uses HEAR 155.340 for all the non digital counties in the area, as does Martha Jefferson Hosp. They both use the 800 MHz P-25 system in the db.

UVA also uses 462.950 for Pegasus.

Hospital security is on the P-25 system as is the University PD and everybody else.

BTW, that system is working great, meets the needs just fine, and they've really learned how to get the most out of it.

I've heard MCV using HEAR once or twice (155.340) but that's really it. They're also licensed for the UHF MED channels but the only comms I've heard on there relating to MCV have been medical evac helicopters talking to the MCV helicopter pad.

Addendum:

UVa also has access to Med 10 462.975 Massanutten for comms with Pegasus when it is going that way. It works all the way into WV. They also use MED 9 on Elliot's Knob in Augusta Co.

Augusta Medical Center uses UHF dispatched from the EOC, which gets a call on MED 9 and assigns a channel, usually (so it seems) MED 4.

VCU communications is capable of operating on:

155.340 (richmond hear - csq)
155.280 (interhospital hear)
155.205 (statewide ems - csq)
123.075 (helipad unicom)
462.950 (192.8) Med 9 (air medical coordination)
453.125 (192.8) LifeCom Richmond - for LifeEvac helos

You can hear VCU communications make a morning radio check every day on 453.125 and the hearsystem. Additionally, they make a weekly roll call to Richmond area hospitals on either 340 or 280 on Wednesdays...I can't remember which.

Thanks Jay. 155.205 is also used by S&R around here.Once in a while too I have heard people driving up the highway just yakking on it.

Back in the 80s when I worked for a 2-way shop we would sometimes test the UVa 155.340 radio by dialing up MCV.
