Just an update Vernon fire and ambulance is now on 33.48. The switch was made on July 1st. Currently the Fox Hill cross band repeater low band side is set to 33.48 and still repeats on 460.3875. There is also a 33.48 lowband radio at the TN Bald Hill site on 33.48 with a PL of 179.9. This is the first step in a county wide change to multiple low band freuqencies.
If all goes well with the Vernon change going forward TN will add aditional low band frequencies. TN has obtained permission to use 33.84 and 33.86 from Enfield and Bloomfield repesctively since they are currently using new UHF systems. TN will start to implement the latter frequencies through the end of the year. The plan is for Somers FD, West Stafford FD, Stafford Ambulance, Staffordville FD, Union FD and Ashford FD to move to 33.84. Ellington FD, Ellignton Ambulance, Crystal Lake FD, Tolland FD, Willington #1 FD, and Willington Hill FD to move to 33.86. Mansfield, North Coventry, South Coventry, Columbia and Andover will stay on 33.44 and Bolton Fire will move to 33.44 as well. 33.78, 33.88 and 33.90 will also be retained as alternate backup frequencies.
In addition as part of this plan TN FDs have been urged to start utlizing low power fire ground channels for fire ground traffic and keep the high powered repeaters only for communications back to the dispatch center.
This is going to mean that you will hear less traffic spread out across more channels. This should help improve comms for the calls but will certainly limit the scanners out there and what they hear.
