• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Vertex - Factory Mode / Manufacturer Mode - what does it allow to be done?

I have a VX3200V which works OK.

I have lowered the squelch threshold using alignment mode (built into CE52E software and adjusting "Threshold NSQL") so that the radios squelch opens on weaker signals.

However, when scanning, the radio requires a much stronger signal to open the squelch compared to just monitoring on one frequency - more than on my other commercial radios. As a result, weak but copyable signals are missed when scanning.

Is there a way to use Factory/Manufacturers Mode which will allow the scan squelch threshold level to be lowered?

Thanks

Most CE programs allow to set the squelch level individually for each channel on the main screen, close to the right side.
No need to mess with factory settings.

With some of my Vertex radios such as the VX-820 series it is possible to set the user squelch level at "level 1" and the squelch will open on a really weak signal with is great (with no alignment required)

BUT my VX-3200V (F/W 3.x) does NOT have a user adjustable squelch level ie 0-15 (from the front keys). It is only possible to set the squelch threshold level using the programming software (0 - 15) and at level 1 the radio initially did not open on weak but copyable signals.

I used the alignment mode to adjust the squelch threshold BUT at the lowest possible threshold the squelch still does NOT open on a really weak signal (unlike the VX-820 series). The alignment mode involves injecting a weak signal to set the squelch threshold. It is not manually adjusted...but I found that the minimum squelch threshold is obtained by injecting NO signal!!...but the squelch threshold is still a bit too high...but OK!!!! However the scan squelch threshold is still too high.

Maybe its a firmware issue? Or maybe its possible to use Factory Mode to further adjust the squelch thresholds? Or maybe its to do with a fixed narrow band squelch offset which is too high. Squelch alignment is done using wide band (25 KHz). The VX-3200 is programmed for 12.5 KHz spacing BUT I might try 25 KHz spacing to see if the squelch threshold levels are different.
