Vertex FTH-2009 Cable

Hello everyone. I am new here, and as this will be my first post please go easy on me. Anyway I am looking for any info available on programming a Vertex FTH-2009 portable radio. I have the software, but I am unsure about a cable. I have cables for various Motorola, Kenwood, and Ritron radios. Would they work? Also is this computer possibly to fast (New Dell Latitude D800 with Windows XP).

It's possible a cable you have will work. My Vertex/Yaesu cable works on Icom/Vertex/and Kenwood, depending on the radio. Numerous adapters may be needed on the radio end, depending on whether it plugs into a mic jack/modular plug, etc. It's very possible that your program will not work with XP. All but my icom program run into serial port streaming issues with XP. It was a known issue when I encountered it. I keep an old pc runnin windows 98 here, since some of the older programs require a DOS platform, or at least decent DOS emulation.
Every vertex/yaesu program I have runs into this situation. Ft-90, ft-50, ft-3000, and vx-180.

Here is what I have found so far.

When I use my Ritron cable, which plugs into the microphone jack, I get the messages as follows:

Turn off radio, Turn to channel 6, Hold the PTT switch down while turning on the radio, still holding down the PTT switch turn the radio to channel 1. Hit space bar.

Next message displayed is "Turn the radio to channel 2". The program seems like it is going to read the radio, but does nothing.

When I use my Motorola RIB with my Ritron cable I get a communication error.

I have an old PC with Windows 98 on it which I have had more success using to program radios that I am going to try tonight, just the convience factor plays a part with the laptop.
