Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have two radios, both with the same frequencies programmed in them. The first is a Vertex 231 and the other is an Icom F4001.

The icom transmits to the Vertex and the vertex receives the message. The Vertex will not transmit back to the Icom

Anyone????

Need more info. Are you using PL/DPL? Repeater/Simplex? Have you double checked that all programming is correct? Sounds silly but go through the vertex and double check your PL/DPL and Tx/Rx frequencies are indeed correct and verify that it matches the Icom.

Thank you, We are not using any codes or tones on either radio. There are both programmed with matching GMRS frequencies.

When you press the push to talk button on the Vertex it activates the receive light on the Icom, but there is no voice transmission. ?????

We are not on a repeater and use simplex. We operate in a mall.

Sounds like you have a receive PL on the Icom. Again read the radios and go through the profiles and double, triple check. And this may sound strange, but get a second set of eyes to look over your programming, you may be over looking something a fresh set of eyes might catch.

Edit: Also check for signalling options that may be turned on as well.

You may be on to somerthing. There are two Icoms that work perfectly together. Maybe PL in both of them, I will check again. LOL.

They talk to each other and to the Vertex, but the Vertex does not voice respond.

Thank you again.......

Good luck. And if it seems like nothing is wrong, get a fresh set of eyes to look at the programming;) Hope you find you what is wrong

The ICOM should have a squelch or monitor button on the side near the push too talk button.

Hold it in while the Vertex is transmitting and then tell us if you hear the transmission of the vertex on the Icom.

If you do hear the vertex while holding the Icoms monitor button then this means that the Icom is not set for carrier squelch.
