Vertex TRBO compatible? Vaporware or reality?

A friend was looking for a replacement in house comm system for there antique Motorola system in his large factory complex.
I suggested a Motorola TRBO system for there needs. They started taking bids. One sales rep told him that Vertex now had a TRBO system "in the pipeline". Trouble is I see nothing about such equipment available via Vertex. Was "smoke" being blown .....OR is Vertex coming out with TRBO compatible radios?
This sales rep said that the Vertex system was a "better and cheaper " alternative to what Moto has.

Curious, as I said I can NOT find anything on-line.

Vertex Standard announces DMR portfolio -- Urgent Communications article

AS VEGAS — Vertex Standard yesterday announced that it will offer a suite of TDMA products that mark the company’s entry into the Digital Mobile Radio (DMR) space, based on the ETSI standard.

Although it was a charter member of the DMR Association, Vertex Standard has not had DMR products until the unveiling of its portfolio — portable, mobile and repeater — during this week’s International Wireless Communications Expo (IWCE) show, said Chris Lyons, director of product management for Vertex Standard.

“We’ve had digital radios over the years, but these are our first digital DMR radios,” Lyons said.

The Vertex Standard DMR portable is ruggedized, can operate on more than 500 channels, has a full display and keypad, and supports analog voice, digital voice and radio-to-radio text messaging, Lyons said. The mobile solution offers the same feature set but does not support text messaging, he said.

Operating on two time slots in a 12.5 kHz channel, the Vertex Standard DMR is considered to be 6.25 kHz equivalent, meaning implementation would not be subject to further FCC narrowbanding mandates in the foreseeable future.

Vertex Standard plans to ship its DMR equipment after getting FCC approvals, which are expected during the second quarter, Lyons said.

In addition, Vertex Standard this week will introduce a new series of “full-featured” analog mobile and portable radios targeted for the mid- and high-tier public-safety and rugged-construction industries, Lyons said.

Missed that.

Missed it as I wasn't looking for that info at that time.
It is still vaporware as there is no product to actually checkout at this time. Just words and "future release" propaganda. And to far off. Nothing to see here, YET.
It doesn't do my friend any good as this is something that needs to be acted on quickly, so Moto will be the winner on this occasion.

Since Motorola owns Vertex, it would make sense.....of course, Motorola is going to squeeze all of the money out of their line before they release compatible radios on it's subsidiary line.

Vertex Trbo

Yes it is coming. When we were at the channel partners meeting in Columbus Ohio in October, Radios were there. They are still n the process of obtaining FCC type approval for sale here in the USA.

It is supposed to happen second quarter if I remember right.
