Anyone on the board know the fleetmap size code and values for the Vestavia Hills Type I TRS?

It is not listed on the board under the system information.

I'm sure someone on the board monitors their system. Any info appreciated.

Here is the Vestavia Fleet Map from the Radio Reference / Vestavia TRS page.

I have monitored this in my travels to Birmingham...my birthplace. I used to dispatch at Vestavia back in the pre 800 days.

Type I Motorola. S-0 S-0 S-0 S-0 S-0 S-3 S-0 S-0

Whitby had a page from years back w/ Vestavia info. That's how I got my original info.

Very good for the "over the mountain" area and Shelby County too.

Look on page 37 of your Pro 96 manual. Press FUNC then 8. You'll see S-00 as the default. Just enter the same S00 (that's zero-zero) for all the rest of the entries except for entry five, when you you'll enter S03. Once you've made the seven entries required for the fleetmap, you can just psuh ENTER and you'll be done. You should be able to trunk track Vestavia Hills although you'll get every talk group. Continue reading on page 38 and 39 about how to store and label talkgroups.

i live in the roebuck area and i have put in the map i sell can not hear anything so what can i do nexts.

NO reception on this system from this part of town (Huffman/Roebuck). The 800Mhz
antenna from RS doesn't pull in anything even with the squelch wide open, and I have
a direct line-of-site to Red Mountain from my hilltop!

I Need Help Also

I posted a message a while back but on this same subject I do not want to listen to anything but Vestavia Fire, i have the talkgroups programmed in and have all but the Vestavia Fire talkgroup locked out, does anyone have any suggestions as to how i can "tweek" it so that I only listen to Fire? While I think I have done it right, I still here EVERYTHING on Vestivia's frequencies.

With all due respect.... there is nothing to alter.

Step one is to have the control channel(s) programmed into your scanner. Control Channels on Motorola systems sound like a diesel engine running. If among all the frequencies you have programmed, you do not hear such a sound, you will not be able to trunk-track with your scanner. Scanner should be prgrammed in "Control Channel Only" mode in Uniden scanners. Radio Shack refers to "Open" mode I believe.

Program the talkgroups as you've done, lock out or keep active those of interest and you are set.

Vestavia has gone to a Type-II system. That means talkgroup id numbers will read as the following examples: 16, 43220, 592, 1088, etc. Type-I talkgroup numbers (such as 101-4) will not work in a Type-II programmed scanner.

Now....how do we go about learning the Type-II talkgroups???? Not so hard. Once you are programmed for Type-II Moto trunking, run the scanner in "Search" or "Open" mode.
You will receive all talkgroups. Now by listening to the radio traffic you can often tell if you're hearing police, fire, public works, etc. Please make note of the talkgroups you want to listen to such as fire.

Post back what you get and we can get those talkgroup id numbers posted to the RR-database.

If you are asking for an explanation as to what a Type-2 talkgroup is..... Motorola's first trunking format was Type-1. In a type-1 system, the talkgroup identification number to be entered into a scanner would look something like one of the following examples: 101-2, 004-22, 310-06, etc.

When trunked systems grew and a city or county needed more talkgroups (channels) than a Type-1 system could operate with.... Motorola came out with their Type-2 system that allowed more talkgroups on a system and had other features too. Talkgroup identification numbers programmed into a scanner for a type-2 system will look like one of the following examples: 42460, 48, 592, 10000, etc.
