Had a ride last night., no more two way radio., only a keyboard., very colourful display with lots of info.

so question is--are they using the cell network or a proprietary system?

Driver said if he needs to talk to dispatcher., he must use his cellphone !!

Any comments. tnx

Many cab services are going to that type of app for dispatching. It improves dispatch speed but has several downsides. The biggest is that only the driver knows where he is going and often the destination is not the best part of town. In larger fleets many drivers feel that the juicy calls (long distance or high tippers) are being filtered so only certain drivers get them.

Another issue not mentioned is that the driving while distracted incidents are way up for cabbies. They are spending their time looking for the next call as they get near the current destination.
