Greetings All,

I am trying to pull in frequency 155.595 used for county wide police dispatch from approximately 40 miles away (I don't know what their power output is). Geography is more or less flat. I am currently using a scantena which is giving okay results, depending somewhat on the weather. The scantena is currently mounted in the attic, however, when it was on the roof, results were about the same. I am looking for something that will give better results (less static and breakups)...any suggestions?

A higher gain antenna cut for that part of VHF will help, you could also use a beam aimed that way. There are quite a few home brew yagi plans online for 144-148 that would be cheap enough to build if you have some mechanical inclinations.

edit....

That would work if you are just wanting to hear frequencies in that same range from that one area (since a beam/yagi is directional).

Changing the coax to something with less loss can always help, but it is hard to say since some signals are just too far away to hear well.

VHF Directional Yagi Pointed in that Direction is the only other option at this point..
