Is it possible for a VHF antenna covering from 140-170 MHz to receive signal from the 40 MHz area. I am not worried about the transmitting, just the receiving. I am going to be buying a 2-way radio and will be keeping my scanner for listening to other channels. The reason for the question is I would like to have matching antennas so that it will look clean rather than having random antennas flying all over the place. Thanks.

The quick answer is yes, but you are limiting your DX range in favor of aesthetics. This will probably seem extremely unusual to most anyone who uses a scanner, but if you're able to test and confirm you can "hear" what you're looking for, then good for you. i.e. Buy the transmitting antenna and see if it will pick up what you're looking for on the scanner. If you're happy with the results, order the second antenna.

Update this thread with your results please for others that might search for a similar solution and please add details. Antenna model, height etc.
