That is what is so good about it. A small scanner antenna. I even heard one ham radio operator who had his antenna laying on the ground. Night like that the size of the antenna does not matter. You just had to be listening. Tonight everything is back normal. There are a few good band skips that occur down South due to the gulf moisture and quick temperature changes.
Radioshack or Laird antenna? I have a 1/2 wave Laird antenna for UHF 450-470 I got Chicago PD crystal clear in the summer and once this winter. I also got all the way to Iowa with it. It is amazing how far a radio can reach.
