In monitoring the VHF high band frequencies in the Fredericksburg area, in particular the VSP, F'burg city and others, I am getting interference from either a paging system or is it the VSP mobile data. Does anyone know? I get the interference on two different scanners.

A scanner is a poor receiver to be talking about paging interference on. They are broad as a barn door and have poor image rejection as well as poor overload tollerence. You may want to locate a decent receiver and make the same comaprison. I also would be willing to bet if the state was getting the interference, that it would go away in a short order.

I have never experienced the problem your talking about and I drive through there fairly often. However I do use a comercial radio to listen to the state frequencies with.

I'm in Fredericksburg, and I haven't noticed anything. I monitor Fredericksburg PD, Fire/Rescue, and Mary Washington PD on my VX-150.

I use PL decode on all the channels, but I still don't think there are any problems.

Paging Interference

His paging interference most likely is sourced on 158.700 and/or 158.100 mhz. wide area 300 or 500 or in some case 1KW ERP and I mean wide area. Paging can originate from New Jersey to Georgia. That's one reason they go almost continuously 24 hours a day. I have several Uniden scanners I bought at past hamfests. They have good sensitivity. As posted, they are so poorly filtered it takes very little intermod to trash them. Therefore I have to dedicate them to local repeater reception using a lower gain antenna.
As recommended purchase a better filtered receiver. I installed a high notch 50 db filter in line and it helped reduce but did not totally eliminate the problem. If you are interested in it you can email me.
