Anyone doing any VHF Marine monitoring either in the CIties or up on Lake Superior ? I occasionally hear the coast guard doing their notices on Ch 16 and 22A here in the cities but so far thats about it.
When visiting Duluth I really enjoy monitoring the harbor traffic.
It would be wonderful if a Duluth Harbor audio feed was available to compliment the various live harbor web cams.
There is a fair amount of traffic on the marine band in Minneapolis, but what channels they are on, I can't remember. Generally in Minneapolis, you will hear it around st Anthony falls and the other ship locks as that is how the ships communicate with the river masters.
I will have to get a bit closer to downtown Mpls and scan a bit more. I see the tugs down by the St Paul airport and havent spent a ton of time looking for them on VHF. If anyone needs a radio to put a feed on from Duluth / Superior / North Shore I have a couple of older Ray Jeffs that I will donate to the cause.
Because prior to Narrowbanding [which created more channels] frequencies in VHF were scarce. Even Coastal agencies obtained some of those International [meaning they should not be used in US Waters - Note the words SHOULD NOT] marine channels. Quite common
