Are you sure you aren't talking about a post MDC burst? Does it sound like a a data burst of really fast tones, like a squawk?

The reason you wouldn't hear it on the mobile radios it that they may have MDC DOS (Motorola Data Communications Data Operated Squelch) turned on.

This is an option in many Motorola radios that mutes the squawk for the sake of the sanity of people who have to listen to it all day.

What kind of radio are you using?

Sort of like a BONG! sound? CTCSS/CDCSS disconnect tone. Some sound like a cricket, or grasshopper, some sound like a BUMP!, and others sound like BEEP!...BEEP BEEP!, while my favorite is the cricket connect, BEEP! discon.

OK .. thats just a squelch tail.... usually you do not hear it on a commercial radio that is programmed right, and on a scanner with CTCSS/CDCSS set up right.... To minimize this, turn the squelch settings to a weaker setting till its not as much of an issue.. but to fix it outright, get the right tones in the radio. Also on a radio not set up with the right tones, you can get walked on badly in a ducting/skip situation.
