This might not apply to everyone, but according to a source, many north suburban agencies don't even have VHF radios, all their units are starcom

Most agencies in DuPage have their cars equipped with Kenwood Mobiles. They do have car to car frequencies as backups on there but they are never used. However it is commonly used to listen ISPERN on VHF. Usually they will use the local talkgroups on their portables to talk to each other.

For Cook County Sheriff they utilize car to car on ENC talkgroups with their APX Mobiles. The Mobiles have access to Statewide talkgroups rather than on their portables.

Barely Cook County but South Barrington, at least to my knowledge, still uses VHF simplex for talkaround. Can't confirm that now that I'm out of the area but before I moved they did. The NWCDS agencies I worked with all only have VHF in the cars and as mentioned only use it to listen to ISPERN or NOAA weather radio (if the user actually knows how to change the channel).

FWIW, in the North Shore area, the only agency I hear using a VHF side is Northfield PD. They along with Wilmette, Winnetka, etc shared 155.250, but I've only recently heard NPD using it.

That sounds about right. Other than ISPERN, I've never heard CCS using analog VHF. Though occasionally, I do hear what sounds like dispatch being simulcasted on their old freqs using P25 (in the clear, surprisingly).

I hear Buffalo Grove and Prospect Heights PDs using their respective VHF side bands every now and then. Mount Prospect has a VHF DMR system, but appears to be fully ENC.

Aside from all that, I've heard the following areas/agencies in Cook County using some sort of VHF side:

- Alsip PD on 155.775
- Bellwood, Westchester PDs (and possibly Hillside?) on 154.8225
- Blue Island PD on 155.100
- Burnham PD on 155.700
- Calumet Park PD on 154.025 179.9 PL
- Crestwood PD on 154.1075
- Dolton PD on 155.955
- Forest View PD on 155.310
- Some Net-10 agencies on 155.430
- Hillside PD (and other area PDs?) on 155.640 D662
- Hodgkins PD on 159.0975
- Justice PD on 155.895
- Lynwood PD on 155.775
- Markham PD (and/or Harvey PD?) on 155.190 192.8 PL
- McCook PD on 154.980
- Net-16 agencies on 155.490
- Midlothian PD on 155.790
- Morton Grove PD on 155.880
- Orland Park PD on 155.5725
- Palos Park PD on 154.025 131.8 PL
- Posen and River Forest PDs on 155.910 162.2 (yes, I can confirm that they use the same freq and PL tone)
- Riverside PD on 155.805
- Stickney PD on 155.940
- Summit PD on 461.225 (not VHF, but still a side band)
- Tinley Park PD on 151.3025
- Worth PD on 476.3875

A known active VHF car to car frequency in my area is 153.875 (186.2 hz CTCSS)... listed as LGPk Police Tac, I can confirm this is used a lot by La Grange Park PD.

I forgot about that one. Someone reported that it's also used by Brookfield PD. Is that true?
