I would like to try increasing my range for Close Call by using a beam antenna, like the Grove Scanner Beam at http://www.grove-ent.com/BEAMII.html. I would be using it in a mobile application, like sitting in a parking lot and pointing it towards a building or complex. I've heard that these beam antennas should be used vertically for VHF/UHF Narrow-FM. Is that just for omnidirectional reception? Or would this probably work for me? Thanks.

I posted this a few days ago. Using a Maxrad dual band 3db GAIN mobile antenna with a 2055/97 will just BLOW YOU AWAY. The Maxrad # is MDB1545 but on this site its 150450. Look at www.bncantenna.com The first two days using this I found a new Federal freq in town and FAA freq at GSP airport. Since then the list is too long to print. Antenna uses NMO hardware.
