• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Do any of the ICOM VHF and UHF mobiles have the ability to remote mount the head from the body of the radio? I've tried searching, but Google just comes back with ham radios instead of commercial radios.

Many of them do. What are you looking for exactly? New, used? P25, iDas/NXDN?

Either new or used. They would be used in analog, but if it has NXDN it wouldn't be a deal breaker (NXDN wouldn't be used though.)

I'm more familiar with Kenwood mobiles than ICOM, so I'm not sure what ICOM has these days....

Connect Systems has a DMR model dual bander. Connect Systems They are a good company when you have questions, and the radio is reasonable for a dual band remote head model. Another choice is the VN-N7500
. It uses a standard cat 5 cable to connect the microphone to the radio, so it can be almost anywhere in the vehicle. The mike controls channels and volume. It is programmed and controlled through a blue tooth android app and has ARPS built in. There is also a blue tooth microphone available for wireless control of the radio.

Oldies, but if all you need is analog, you may be able to find some used ones out there:
IC-F1020 VHF
IC-F2020 UHF

I used the 2020 for years for GMRS and 70cm. Nice basic radio, small control head.
There are newer models, but I haven't dabbled in Icom since the IC-F221/IC-F621 days.

You can usually find F5061/6061D's fairly cheap. Get yourself an RMK3 and you'll have a nice small remote mount analog/NXDN rig. Nice radio's for the money.

He’s asking about LMR gear not ham gear.

The ICOM ICF1721/2721/1821/2821 series radios can all be remoted. Icom made separation kits and cables for them. Ebay sellers have them too.
