I am scheduled to take a trip on VIA Rail to Jasper this weekend, anyone have any VIA Rail specific frequencies, or know what range I should be searching in?
Via Rail uses CN and/or CP Rail freq's for their operations.
Unless someone has the specific list for that area , I'll suggest to search between 160.185 to 161.475 mHz and log which freq's are active.
Some scanners have RR as a search range and will alternate freq and AAR ch # when active.
There are also freq's in the 457 mHz range to monitor as well.
Been on the "Canadian" twice The 161.415 for the CN dispatcher is the one to have as well as the "Via OPS" freq of 160.200 when they want to chat amongst themselves as this is also the freq they use when the train is pulling into the station and departing The head end monitors both.
also I forgot to check where you are originating from as VIA uses the paired track in the Fraiser Canyon between Mission and Kam, which is CP as well as CN. CP dispatcher is 161.475 , once they have ringed up the ds. If you can get a copy of the Canadian Trackside Guide, it has everything you need to know.
Thanks.
I have a thousand CP/CN freqs thanks to Spectrum Direct, and quite a few UHF freqs listed to Via Rail. I am going to program them all into the BC246 before I go and leave it on close call also to see if I can get anything.
Thanks.

Almost all comms were on the Ch1 end to end freq of 161.415. I had the 2006 Canadian Trackside guide with me, and there was a little, but not much on any other frequency I had dialed in to the 246. I didn't pick up any traffic on the freq listed in the CTG for Via Edmonton of 469.3875, but that may be because I was not listening too hard as we pulled in or pulled out of the mini station that Edmonton has. I am going to go park up there when the Canadian comes through this Saturday morning and try and confirm the local UHF Via frequency.
