The Federal Bureau of Prisons, National Acquisitions Section, Washington, DC intends to issue a firm fixed price, sole source purchase order to Motorola, Inc., Columbia, MD for additional equipment to expand the current Motorola radio system at FCC Victorville. Motorola has the proprietary rights to the existing Motorola trunked radio system currently installed at the site.

1.Most of the BOP systems have been acquired under the existing DOD BSTRS contract.

2. Local facilities have little input in the contracting process which has been handled at the Central office in DC.

3. The exisiting system is being expanded/upgraded.

4. You can't mix Ma/com, Johnson, and Motorola and have a system that works.

So what is your point?

Oh BTW, all existing BOP systems are scheduled to be upgraded to type II Smartnet Astro only systems by the end of this year. Well ahead of the mandated narrow band conversion deadline.

The BOP, as a federal agency, had the federal narrow band mandate in 2005 or is something else at work here?

That post was from 2004. BOP was using the then existing Department of Defense Base Support Trunked Radio System contract to procure the systems for the various institutions.

I have since retired from the bureau and am out of the loop. I don't know how the process is going now.
My successor just got his system upgrade this year. I'll see if I can get in touch of him but he is busy installing the new CCTV system this month.
