Does anyone have any tricks for viewing EDACS affiliations? I've tried fudging the Trunker Database program to get it to accept my ETrunk data files, but no luck so far. Basically I just want to view the affiliations to see if it can help me ID a few unknown talkgroups. I'm sure there must be a way to filter all the data in Excel or something like that, but I'm just not that sharp to put that togther :(

I guess basically I would like to take the page.txt file, filter all the duplicate entries out (this alone would make things easier) then sort the listing by either radio ID or talkgroup.

Anyone have any words of wisdom?

Presently on my Etrunker setup I am capturing the affiliations and transmissions and logging them. I do agree that this information can be valuable for determining what is going on in a system.

As far as your question ... I think the easiest way for you to do what you want is to filter all the unwanted info after the fact. I really don't think that you want to have Etrunker do anything other than what it does .... that being logging each and every affiliation.

Something you may want to do it look at the FILTERLOG option ... this will allow you to only capture the affiliations for groups that are able to be "monitored" via a 2nd radio. (equal to or less than the scan threshold).

I have mine set to 9 ... and anything that is on one of these groups is sent to the page file. This will likely cut down the amount of data greatly ... depending on how you set it up.

As far as the data ... I would use a program like MS Access (thats what I use) as it works much better than Excel for this type of thing.

Just import the data (these are really just simple files but the size can get big)... and you can run queries on it. Works very well ....

Hope this helps. Feel free to contact me if you need any more info.

Thanks for the FILTERLOG suggestion... I'll look into that, as my page file is growing rather quickly. And yes indeed the log is very handy for seeing the other rarely used talkgroups out there. Gotta love it when someone sits there and idly flips thru all the channels in his radio :) I'm also seeing a handful of talkgroups that have a fair number of affiliations to them.... yet they never seem to have any traffic on them... odd!
