• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

It looks like this unit does several things, one being a P25 gateway. Is this unit compatible with P25 CAI? I’m trying to set up a P25 data gateway and I’m struggling to understand if I need a special piece of hardware like this, or if I can get this set up with any internet connected computer and a properly configured radio… I can pick a Viking Atlas 8000 up pretty cheap, but I use mostly Harris SUs so I don’t know if having this unit would benefit me.

Does anyone know anything about this unit? I’d happily read a manual, but all I can find is a basic product sheet.

Thanks for the help!

Atlas 8000 is just a pc server.Screenshot_20220606-233420_OneDrive.jpg

This provides a gateway to a p25 trunk system in the public safety domain.

What are your accomplishments to your project? (What's your goal that you need to complete?)

The gateway does not care what radios you have, it's radio agnostic. Your plans to what you want to do is what matters.

Thanks for the info. That’s the only doc I can find anywhere. I’m trying to set up a P25 CAI system (implementing as much of the standardized feature set as possible). So encrypted voice (all call, group call, icall, emergency call) and encrypted data, messages, status query, status update, unit monitoring, radio check, party id, and inhibit/uninhibit…

I have the encrypted voice part all set up including all calling types, and I have party id working. I don’t believe I need a data gateway for status update, but for creating a MDT (encrypted data) and using messaging features, I’ll need a data gateway and possibly console software? For status query, radio check, and inhibit, I’m pretty positive I do.

This project is partly exploratory, but mostly for business. I’m happy to read and learn, but I don’t have any great resources. I know how to configure everything I need on the SUs, but I’m still learning about console, gateways, and how to host set up the host for these services.

You need a message switch, and connectivity. This is mostly done on the CAD side and your CAD vendor should guide you. What CAD system are you running? Mobile clients? How do they connect to your CEN? What VPN are you utilizing? Most CAD systems have a generic interface for radio system aliasing, so dispatchers can tag radio ID's/aliases and marry them to a CAD/MCT login. Some vendors who peddle their various CAD systems can provide a CAD alias manager server that lets you do this on a server that sits on the radio network and pulls alias data into their CAD. All depends on what you're running CAD/mobile wise.

I've implemented two CAD systems in my career. Having done this, your CAD vendor should be the "go to" not your radio vendor, unless they are one in the same.

I haven’t chosen a CAD yet. The system is in its infancy. I’ll probably use the least expensive option, as it’s a very small system and doesn’t need tons of features on the dispatch side, just enough to be capable. My mobile clients are all Harris XG100M, XG100P, or older P7100 units.

I’m perhaps not qualified to answer all of these questions at this time. I’m still learning and to be honest, this is somewhat of an exploratory journey. It is not mission critical. Like is said, I’m more than happy to take a class, read a manual, or otherwise learn (I am enrolled in the Tait Radio Academy Intro to P25 class, but I’m not far enough along to understand everything, though I do grasp most of it). I do know what all of the acronyms you mentioned mean with the exception of “CEN”. There will be a single site contained in a single rack and a single console station.

Yes I’m a total noob, but I’m working on it! If I need additional console hardware, it likely won’t be Harris…the SUs are expensive enough!
